Water levels are good and the catfish have been biting up on the Red River. We’ve been catching a lot of fish, but we have been catching more eater-sized fish than normal, although there are still plenty of big fish mixed in.

Focus along the edges of the main current and stay on the move searching for active fish.

The best baits have been anything fresh you can get. We are currently in a sucker shortage so they have been tough to find. Freshly cut goldeyes and stonecats have all been working well. If you can find suckers they will work great too.

With the warm weather we’ve been having here in North Dakota we’re about three weeks ahead of schedule. The spawn is happening right now and that will slow the fishing down a bit, but the spawn should be a quick one only lasting a few weeks.

The catfish fishing should continue to be good for the next few weeks. Be safe and good luck to anyone fishing the Red River over the week or weekend.
