Devils Lake: 11-15-2023

We are still trying to cling to fall over here in North Dakota. A couple of weeks ago we were starting to form ice on some of the smaller lakes, shallow bays, and sloughs around the Devils Lake area, but with this recent warm up we have lost almost all of our ice.

It’s kind of that in-between season right now. Most anglers have put their boats are and are waiting for the first ice.

For those hitting the open water, there still are some good walleye bites happening.

Anglers can catch walleyes out on Devils Lake near bridges and current areas. The best presentation by far has been a jig and a minnow, but a few fish can be caught on reactionary baits like Jigging Raps and Tikka Minnos.

Most of those fish can be caught fairly shallow. Target those walleyes in fifteen feet or less.

Anglers should still be able to get out in their boats or from shore for the next week or so at least.

Good luck to any anglers hitting the last week or two of open water on Devils Lake and the surrounding area. It won’t be long before we are on the ice!
