Devils Lake Fishing Report: 3-14-2024

It’s one of the best times of the year to fish Devils Lake.

Devils Lake is open all year round and it is a great time to plan a trip to capitalize on some fantastic fishing.

Right now we have open water opportunities as well as some late ice opportunities.

As we continue to progress into spring the bite is only going to get better as more fish push shallow in anticipation for the spawn.

Right now anglers can target bridges and current areas for walleyes.

Jigs paired with plastics have been working. Walleyes can also be caught on hair jigs.

Look for fish along the edge of the current seams. Some will be along the riprap as well.

As the ice continues to melt and we get closer to the spawn more walleyes will continue to move into these areas.

Ice Fishing: Devils Lake Fishing Report

There is still a lot of ice on the lake, but you do need to be cautious and avoid cracks, heaves, and areas where there is current.

Overall the fishing has been really good.

Anglers have been catching lots of walleyes, along with a few big perch in shallow water. Most of those fish are being caught between three and nine feet of water.

Target areas near the bigger islands, shoreline points, or saddle system that come off the shoreline.

The best bite has been early in the morning and late in the even, but fish can be caught all throughout the day.

Glidebaits and rattle spoons tipped with a minnow head has been the best jigging presentation.

It is also worth it to put out dead sticks, because they have been getting bit a lot.
