North Dakota Fishing Report: 6-17-2024

It’s been really windy in North Dakota the past few weeks, but the fishing has been really good for walleyes. The summer bite is turning on and lots of fish are being caught on Devils Lake and Lake Sakakawea.

Lake Sakakawea North Dakota Fishing Report:

We’ve spent a decent amount of time in the Van Hook Arm or Lake Sakakawea and we’ve had some good fishing. Anglers can expect to find decent numbers of fish in eight to thirteen feet of water. Look for walleyes on any structure that extends off from the shoreline. Humps, saddles, points and bars are all holding fish.

Tactics:

Anglers can catch plenty of fish trolling with a butterfly blade spinners trailed with a leech or minnow. Pink and blue have been a hot color for the blade. Walleyes can also be caught pitching jigs paired with minnows or plastics.

Devils Lake North Dakota Fishing Report:

Strong winds at Devils Lake, North Dakota, have really turned on the pitching and casting bite. Overall the water clarity has been very clear this year and the winds have helped stirred that up which has improved the walleye fishing.

Look for walleyes on wind blown structure. Points and wind blown shorelines seem to be holding the most fish. Focus on depths in ten feet of water or less. Anglers can expect to run into the occasional northern pike, white bass, or jumbo perch as well.

Baits:

Crankbaits are working really well. Rapala Shad Raps and Northland Rumble Shads have been great in white and perch color for walleyes. Numbers of fish can also be caught pitching jigs and plastics. The Northland Fishing Tackle mimic minnow in natural colors has been a great bait.
