Jason Mitchell gives his latest Devils Lake fishing report on March 26th, 2024.
Devils Lake Fishing Report: 3-26-2024
We’ve still got a lot of good ice on Devils Lake in North Dakota.
There are a few open water opportunities on Devils Lake near bridges and areas with current. Walleyes can be caught casting jigs paired with plastics. That shoreline bite is only going to get better over the next month.
Remember that Devils Lake is open all year round and it is a great time to plan a trip to capitalize on some fantastic fishing.
Ice Fishing: Devils Lake Fishing Report
There is still a lot of ice on the lake, but you do need to be cautious. Avoid any cracks, heaves, and areas where there is current.
The walleye bite has been good all season on Devils Lake.
Ice anglers have been catching lots of walleyes along with a few big perch.
Most of those fish are being caught in shallow water. A majority are coming between seven and nine feet of water, although some walleyes are being caught as shallow as three feet of water.
Target areas near the bigger islands, road beds, shoreline points, or saddle system that come off the shoreline.
Walleyes can be caught on a number of different baits. Spoons, rattlebaits, and glidebaits are all producing fish. Set lines are also getting bit and are worth setting out.
Jumbo Perch: Devils Lake Fishing Report
We’ve been finding a lot of jumbo perch out deeper in thirty-five feet of water in East Devils Lake, out by the towers and East Bay.
It seems like the number of big perch is up compared to recent years and we’ve seen an increase in the number of two-pound perch being caught throughout the season.
Small spoons tipped with minnow heads or tungsten jigs tipped with minnow heads has been the best baits.
