Devils Lake Fishing Report: 5-15-24

North Dakota fishing guide Johnnie Candle gives his latest Devils Lake fishing report on May 15th, 2024.

Devils Lake Fishing Report: 5-15-24

Main lake water temperatures are in the mid-forties to low-fifties depending on where you are at. Overall the fishing has been decent and should only improve as the water temperatures increase.

Walleyes: Devils Lake Fishing Report

Walleyes can be caught on main lake rocks piles, shorelines, and flooded roads. Focus on depths between four and six feet of water. This is where we have caught most of our eater walleyes.

Larger walleyes can be caught in the shallow dark bottomed bays.

Jigs paired with minnow profile plastics worked the best. Some fish can be caught on hair jigs as well. As the water temperatures continue to rise the fishing should only get better.

Northern Pike: Devils Lake Fishing Report

Anglers can expect to run into plenty of northern pike while walleye fishing. It seems like there are lots of northern pike using the same areas, especially those shallow bays. Look for any areas with new weed growth as well.

Target northern pike on swimbaits, crankbaits, and spinnerbaits.

White Bass: Devils Lake Fishing Report

White bass can be found in the shallow warm water bays. Anglers can expect to find them mixed in with the larger walleyes and northern pike.

Small crankbaits or jigs paired with plastics will work great for the white bass.

Perch: Devils Lake Fishing Report

Jumbo perch have finished up the spawn and can be caught on shallow flats throughout much of the lake.

They are still in big schools so if you find one you can expect more to be close by.

Small jigs paired with minnows or livebait has been the ticket for jumbo perch and don’t be surprised if you run into a pike or walleye that are hanging around the perch schools.
