Captain Jarrid Houston of Houston’s Guide Service gives his latest Buzz Bite Report for Twin Ports and the Duluth area on January 1st, 2022.

Duluth Area Buzz Bite Report 1-1-2022

We are sitting on anywhere from six to ten inches of ice out in the Twin Ports area. Snowmobiles and ATV’s are able to be driven around, but there isn’t enough ice for vehicle traffic yet.

Overall the walleye bite has been really good for numbers of fish.

We aren’t catching a lot of big fish, but you can expect to catch a lot of eaters throughout the day.

Spoons tipped with minnow heads have been our best jigging baits. Setlines with fathead minnows are producing a good number of fish as well.

The inland lakes are kicking out a lot of pike, bass, and panfish along the weed line.

Target those fish anywhere from five to twelve feet of water. They key is to find standing, green weeds. Small jigs paired with wax worms or plastic work great for the panfish, and you can catch northern pike and bass in the same spots on set lines with minnows.

Good luck and tight lines to all the anglers out on the ice now!
