Northern Minnesota Buzz Bite Report 1-6-2022

The fishing has been really good on Leech, Cass, Winnie and in the Bemidji area.

We’ve been catching a lot of walleyes on Northland Buckshot Coffin spoons in an 1/8 or 1/4 ounce tipped with a minnow head. Our best colors have been gold, silver, or orange.

For bigger fish, our key depths have been nine to fourteen feet of water. If you want numbers, slide out a little deeper; although most of those walleyes will be small, somewhere around twelve inches.

The perch have been a little deeper. We are finding them in eighteen to twenty-two feet of water. Small spoons or a minnow under a dead stick will produce numbers of perch. You will have to do some sorting, but there are good numbers of jumbos around.

We have also been using a lot of dropper rigs for the perch. It’s a great rig and I’d definitely recommend it if you are facing a tougher bite.

You can also expect to catch northern pike with set lines and sucker minnows along the weedlines. Depending on the lake the best depths have usually been between eight and fifteen feet of water.

Good luck to those angler fishing in Northern Minnesota and be safe!
