The Leech Lake Spinner Rig Bite is Heating Up

The Leech Lake Spinner Rig Bite is Heating Up!

The Leech Lake spinner rig bite is heating up for walleye all over the lake! Toby Kvalevog has been keeping tabs on the bite along with the rest of the Leisure Outdoor Adventures crew.

In this week’s report, Toby breaks down which areas of the lake he’s been targeting, as well as some of the best tactics that have been putting walleyes in the boat for their crew over the last week. He also shares the tactics that are starting to slow down as we transition from late spring into full blown summer mode.

Here’s what he had to say:

“Hey, Toby Kvalevog standing here on beautiful Leech Lake getting ready to do a guide trip this morning out of Chase on the Lake.

“The walleye fishing has been fantastic. There’s a lot of walleyes out here and they’re biting on spinners and nightcrawlers on the edge of rocks on the main lake and up into portage bay and sucker bay as well. Spinners seem to be a good overall tactic for covering water and going from fish to fish to fish to fish, trying to find that hungry one that will bite.

“Once you find a school of walleye, a bobber and a leech seems to be working really good right now, and of course your artificial baits are working really well, too. Really aggressive tactics like a Jigging Rap or even jigs and plastics have been productive.

“The shiner bite is still there in places, but it’s really not worth the hassle of keeping those shiner minnows alive and spending the money on those. For us, it’s been bobbers and leeches, Lindy Rigs with crawlers and leeches, spinners and nightcrawlers – just covering water.

“The fishing is about to get fantastic, including the musky action. That’s it for this week’s report!”

That should be more than enough information to get you pointed in the right direction this week as you head out onto Leech Lake. Like Toby said, the Leech Lake spinner rig and bobber fishing bites should be productive and keep the walleyes flowing into the net!

Make sure to check back in next week for another up-to-date Leech Lake fishing report from local guides who are on the pulse of the bite!
