If you’re looking for a Lake Vermilion summer fishing report, you’ve come to the right place. Local guide Billy Rosner recently checked in with the latest report for walleye, bass and pike – a multi-species bite.

He shares a few choice tactics for catching walleyes right now all throughout the lake, as well as when the key bite windows have been during this hot Lake Vermilion summer.

Without further ado, here’s Billy’s fresh report from the beautiful Minnesota Canadian shield lake known as Lake Vermilion:

“The best deal to get on walleyes right now on Lake Vermilion is get out early in the morning from sunrise to 8:00 or 9:00.  Then switch over and do some bass or pike fishing during the day, then target walleyes again during those last two hours of the evening to after dark.

“The livebait rigs have been producing with a half of a crawler. Your Jigging Raps are still working, as well. The bite is all over the place from 8 feet of water, out to 28 feet of water. Look for transitions and pay attention to your electronics.

“Some of the big sand flats with chara grass and sand grass have been good. This technique has been around for a long time: just make a long cast with a 1/4 ounce jig, put a chunk of crawler on there and simply long-line troll through those areas. Give your rod a rip every once in a while, which gets a little puff off the bottom. If you hook a little chara grass, that’s okay. That can turn into a really good walleye bite for you.
