Here’s the latest, up-to-date Lake Vermilion early summer fishing report from local guide Billy Rosner.

Many of the springtime patterns are starting to erode as water temperature continue to climb toward summer levels, and Billy has been keeping tabs on the bite for walleye, bass, northern pike and muskies as they continue to make their seasonal transitions.

Here’s what he has been seeing on Lake Vermilion of late:

“Up here on Lake Vermilion, we’re getting some nice walleyes. Lake Vermilion is kind of known for it’s big fish, but we have plenty of these nice eating-sized fish, too. It’s starting to setup into our summertime patterns now with these warmer water temperatures.

“Look at weed edges, think about transitions, and really pay attention to your electronics. Get out early. You can chase the walleyes from day break to 8:00 or 9:00am, then you switch over and do some northern pike and bass fishing during the afternoon. Then in the evening during the last couple hours of sunlight, is when the magic really happens on Vermilion.

“We’ve been catching some nice northern pike lately. They’re out on your deeper weed edges in the 6 to 8 foot range. Look for that nice healthy cabbage. Throw some spinnerbaits and swimbaits, that will get you bit.

“Muskies are on the transition right now and they are beginning to setup on some of your summertime patterns, too. Think deep weed beds, points and rocks. Those areas will get you some muskies right now on Lake Vermilion.

“Bass, too, are just off that first break now. Topwaters are working, as well as swimbaits and small crankbaits. You can get into some really good bass fishing action right now all across the lake.”

That concludes the Lake Vermilion early summer fishing report. We’d like to extend a special thank you to Billy Rosner for keeping tabs on the bite and report back to the AnglingBuzz community.
