Minnesota fishing guide Brian Brosdahl gives his latest Lake Winnibigoshish fishing report on August 6th, 2024.
Lake Winnibigoshish Fishing Report: 8-6-24
Lake Winnibigoshish and the surrounding area lakes are all starting to pick up. The bug hatches are done and the bite has been good. Anglers can expect to catch a number of walleyes along with a variety of other species. Most lakes in the area have water temperatures between seventy-five and eighty degrees.
Lake Winnibigoshish Fishing Report: Walleyes
We’ve been catching numbers of walleyes with some nicer fish mixed in as well. We’ve had a lot of success using slip bobbers paired with the Northland Fishing Tackle Short-Shank Tungsten jig in a 1/16-ounce or 1/8-ounce size. We’ve got murky water this year because of the algae blooms, and you don’t have to get super far away from the fish. Both leeches and nightcrawlers are working on the slip bobbers.
The jig bite is also starting to pick up. We’ve had a lot of success on the Northland Deep-Vee Underpin Jig paired with nightcrawler or minnow. The best jig colors have been blue and parrot. Most of the walleyes can be found between seventeen and twenty-three feet of water. That’s been pretty universal across all of the lakes in the area. Look for walleyes on main lake structure like reefs, humps, saddle systems, and main lake points especially if the wind has been blowing onto it.

Lake Winnibigoshish Fishing Report: Panfish
The smaller lakes in the area have solid panfish bites happening right now. Anglers can expect to catch numbers of crappies and bluegills. Look for crappies off of the weed line in ten to sixteen feet of water during the day. During the evening crappies can be caught along the weed line in six to twelve feet of water. Look for cabbage weed beds because they are holding the biggest schools of crappies. Small tungsten jigs like the Northland Crappie King Jig paired with a plastic has been working great. Hair jigs are also producing plenty of bites.
Bluegills can be found in a few places. Some have been in the deeper bulrushes, while other schools of fish can be found along the weed lines. Again small jigs continue to be the ticket for sunfish, although sometimes you’ll want to tip the jig with a piece of nightcrawler.
Lake Winnibigoshish Fishing Report: Bass and Northern Pike
Anglers are catching plenty of largemouth bass and northern pike on the smaller lakes in the area. Almost all of those fish are being caught off of the deep weed line. Swimbaits, crankbaits, swim jigs are catching both bass and northern pike.
