Lake Minnetonka Fishing Report: 8-26-22
The weather has been hot and the fishing has been solid lately on Lake Minnetonka and the surrounding area lakes. The numbers have been good, but bigger fish have been tougher to find. Anglers can expect to catch plenty of bass, northern pike, panfish and some walleyes.
Lake Minnetonka Fishing Report: Bass
It seems like you can catch bass a number of different ways. You can catch bass flipping weed beds, around docks, and on off shore structure. Ned rigs have been a great option for both bass and walleyes. Swimbaits, flipping baits, drop shots, and jigs are also catching plenty of fish. If you are flipping weed beds look for the heaviest, thickest cover. Most of our fish came between eight and fifteen feet of water just like last week. Target the middle of the weed beds. If you fish the edges you’ll run into a lot of northern pike.
Lake Minnetonka Fishing Report: Panfish
The panfish summer patterns are still going strong. The bluegill and crappie are schooled up. Look for bluegills and crappies in the shallow weeds and weed beds. Cabbage weed beds were best, but the key will be to find fish with your electronics. The best depths have been between six and ten feet of water. Small jigs under bobbers will work great. Natural color, minnow looking plastics will be the ticket. This bite should continue until the water temperatures begin to cool off.
Lake Minnetonka Fishing Report: Northern Pike
The northern pike can be found along the weed line and on some of the deep water humps. Faster moving baits have been the ticket. Swim jigs, crankbaits, and swimbaits have been effective and will catch plenty of northerns. If you are just looking for some good action with a hard fighting fish northern pike are great species to chase this time of year.
