Minnesota fishing guide Brian Brosdahl gives his latest Lake Winnibigoshish fishing report on September 9th, 2024.
Lake Winnibigoshish Fishing Report: 9-9-24
The fishing has been great up on Lake Winnibigoshish and the surrounding area lakes. With the cooler nights most lakes have water temperatures between sixty-seven and sixty-nine degrees. The fall bite is definitely starting to heat up.
Lake Winnibigoshish Fishing Report: Walleyes
The jig bite has been hot on Lake Winnibigoshish, Cass Lake, Leech Lake, and on the smaller lakes in the area. We’ve been catching numbers of walleyes with some large fish mixed in as well. The windy days have been better, but it seems like the fish are biting well most days. By far the best way to catch walleyes right now is a jig and a minnow. We’ve caught a ton of fish using fathead minnows paired with the Northland Deep-Vee Spin jig. The best colors have been parrot, purple, and gold/walleye color. Walleyes can also be caught on crankbaits and spinners.

Some key depths have been between nine and thirteen feet of water. Look for walleyes on sand flats, rocky flats, or areas with gravel bottoms. We have also found a number of walleyes in weed beds and along the weed lines. The key has been finding standing green weeds. The water clarity has really improved on all of the lakes in the area and long fluorocarbon leaders are recommended.
Lake Winnibigoshish Fishing Report: Panfish
The crappies and bluegills have been biting well on most area lakes. On some lakes they are holding tight along the weed edge and on others they have slide out towards the mid-depth basins. Focus on depths between ten and twenty feet of water. Small jigs have worked great. Pair them with plastics, hair, or livebait. As the water temperatures continue to drop anglers can expect more panfish to move out into the mid-depth basins.
