Minnesota fishing guide Brian Brosdahl gives his latest Lake Winnibigoshish fishing report on October 11th, 2024.
Lake Winnibigoshish Fishing Report: 10-11-24
We are finally starting to see the fall bite we’ve been waiting for. Cass Lake, Leech Lake, and Lake Winnibigoshish all have great bites happening on them right now. Anglers can also find solid bites on the smaller lakes in the area. Water temperatures are in the upper fifties, with some of the deeper lakes still in the lower sixties.

Lake Winnibigoshish Fishing Report: Walleyes
Winnie, Cass, and Leech all have a great walleye bite happening. We are finding lots of fish up shallow. The key depths have been between seven and nine feet of water. The fish have been slightly shallower on windy days. Look for walleyes on wind blown shorelines and sand flats with scattered rock. Side imaging will be key to finding the larger schools of walleyes.
We’ve had a ton of success using Northland Fishing Tackle Deep Vee Spin jigs paired with plastics. Work them slowly along the bottom. Most of the slimy algae has worked its way off the bottom so anglers can fish jigs without worrying about moss/algae building up on their bait. Jigs and minnows are also working great.

Lake Winnibigoshish Fishing Report: Panfish
The crappies and bluegills have been biting well on most area lakes. Most of the crappies can be found out in the mid-depth basins. Focus on depths between ten and twenty-five feet of water. Some schools of crappies can still be found along the weed lines. Look for standing, green weed beds. Small jigs have worked great. Pair them with plastics and you’ll be good to good. Smaller puppet minnows are also effective for those deeper crappies. The jumbo perch have moved out deep and are pretty scattered and have been tougher to find.
