Michigan Fishing Report: 5-31-2024
It seems like anglers can find good bites all across the state right now. Most species are shallow and looking to feed.
Detroit River: Michigan Fishing Report
Anglers on the Detroit River are still catching lots of fish. A majority of the walleyes being caught are in the “eater size” class, however there are still a few big fish mixed in. Spinners and crawlers have been the best way to catch them.

Smallmouth Bass: Michigan Fishing Report
The smallmouth bass fishing continues to be fantastic all across Michigan. Lake Erie, Lake St. Clair, Grand Traverse Bay, and a majority of the inland lakes in Michigan all have a great bite happening right now. Look for smallmouth bass on shallow rocky flats in two to eight feet of water. Some smallmouth bass are beginning to spawn.
Drop-shots, jerkbaits, swimbaits, hair jigs, and plastics are all working great for smallmouth bass. Natural colors have worked best for the hair jigs and ned rigs, but brighter colors like orange and clown have worked best when using swimbaits and jerkbaits.
Grand Traverse Bay: Fishing Report
Smallmouth bass can be caught on shallow structure in Grand Traverse Bay. Focus on rocky flats in less than six feet of water. If you slide out into some deeper water anglers are having success with lake trout and ciscos. Small jigging spoons has been the ticket. Most of the fish have been between forty and one-hundred feet of water.

Salmon Fishing: Lake Michigan Fishing Report
Even with the weather changes we had the past week the salmon have stuck around and are biting well on Lake Michigan. Anglers are having good success all along the shore as North as Leland, Michigan. Most of the fish are coming between eighty and one-hundred feet down. The best bite has been early in the morning. Smaller UV green spoons and meat rigs have triggered most bites.
