Lake Michigan Fishing Report
Overall the size of the salmon has been awesome this year. The Salmon fishing has been awesome and anglers are running into some really nice kings and cohos. The best numbers of salmon can be found in fairly deep depths. Most fish are coming down in 80 to 90 feet of water in about 140 feet of water. Small spoons have continued to be the best presentations by far, but some fish can also be caught on meat rigs. Throughout the month of August anglers can expect larger spoons to start producing a majority of the bites.

The vertical jigging bite for lake trout has remained great and plenty of nice fish are coming to hand. Finding fish has been super easy this season with a well defined thermocline setting up on Lake Michigan. We’ve been catching lots of lake trout in 100 to 150 feet of water. Look for bait and fish on the defined thermocline line that’s about halfway down. Fishing around structure has been really good as well. Heavy jigging spoons and jigs have been the ticket.

Inland Lakes: Michigan Fishing Report
Overall the walleyes and smallmouth bass fishing has slowed down a bit, but anglers are still having success on main lake humps and rock piles for both walleyes and smallmouth bass. Anglers can except the walleyes to be deeper than the bass and the best bite has been first thing in the morning or during primetime in the evening.
