Lake Winnebago Fishing Report:4-23-24

The Lake Winnebago and Wolf River system has a lot happening right now. There is a good bite in the Wolf River from Fremont, Wisconsin all the way down into Lake Winnebago.

Walleyes are starting to leave the river and push back into the lakes. The white bass run is starting to kick off.

Walleye: Lake Winnebago Fishing Report

Anglers can expect to run into lots of walleyes. The bite has been consistent throughout the day.

Walleyes can be caught in the Wolf River on a number of different presentations, however dragging crawlers has been the best method by far.

We’ve been utilizing Northland Fishing Tackle Thumper Jigs paired with a nightcrawler and have been working that along the bottom. The flapping blade gives off some flash and vibration and really calls the walleyes in.

Orange, gold, and green have been the best colors.

Another presentation that has worked well for dragging nightcrawlers is a Carolina rig. We’ve had a lot of success using a 1/16-ounce weight with a gold hook.

A few fish can also be caught on hair jigs. Purple, black, orange, chartreuse, and a combination of all four have been the better colors.

White Bass: Lake Winnebago Fishing Report

The white bass are beginning to show up in numbers. The white bass bite is only going to get better in the next few weeks.

White bass can be caught on jigs paired plastics and crankbaits; however the best way to catch them is by pulling flies.

Purple has been the best color, but white, green, and orange are also working.

Expect to catch walleyes, drum, and perch on this presentation as well.
