Captain Jarrid Houston of Houston’s Guide Service gives his latest Superior Wisconsin fishing report on May 14th, 2024.
Superior Wisconsin Fishing Report: 5-14-2024
The fishing has been good this past week in the Duluth, Minnesota / Superior, Wisconsin area.
There are a lot of great bites happening in the lakes, rivers, and on Lake Superior.
Walleye: Superior Wisconsin Fishing Report
With the Minnesota walleye opener happening this past weekend anglers can fish both Minnesota and Wisconsin waters for walleyes.
Overall the bite has been good. Walleyes can be caught on shallow flats in rivers and lakes in the area. Focus on depths around ten feet of water.
A jig and minnow has been the best presentation, but plastics are producing some fish as well. Anglers can expect to catch northern pike and bass in those same areas.

Panfish: Superior Wisconsin Fishing Report
Panfish are beginning to move into the shallows on most lakes in the area. Depending on where you are fishing some can be found right on the edge of the shallow flats, while others have began to push onto them. Look for bluegills and crappies in shallow bays with weeds, near wood, emerging lily pads and creek mouths. Focus on depths between two and eight feet of water.
Small hair jigs in a 1/32-ounce size or 1/16-ounce size have been working. Plastics have also been working great. Pink, white, and red have been our best colors. If the fish are finicky use a crappie minnow on a plan jig or hook.
Lake Superior
There has been a decent bite out on Lake Superior for lake trout and coho salmon. Anglers can catch them long line trolling stickbaits and spoons. Some anglers are having success using flasher and fly combos as well.
Bright colors have been the ticket. Green, chartreuse, hot pink, and purple glow have all been working.
It won’t be long before the walleye bite starts to pick up out on Lake Superior.
