Rainy River Fishing Report: 4-12-2024

The Rainy River has been on fire this past week.

Water levels are low, but the water is clear of any debris and anglers can expect to catch lots of fish with numbers of big ones mixed in.

The weather has been good and the river conditions are very favorable.

Walleye: Rainy River Fishing Report

Walleyes are crushing jigs paired with plastics or jigs paired with minnows. Right now lots of big fish are being caught all throughout the river.

We are seeing a ton of fish in the twenty to twenty seven inch range, with the occasional thirty inch walleye mixed in.

Thirty to sixty fish days per person are very common right now on the Rainy River.

During cloudy days and early in the morning minnows seem to be producing better than plastics.

However, on bright sunny days plastics are doing better than minnows.

The Northland Eye-Candy Paddle Shad has been working exceptional well. The best colors have been gold, pink, white, and orange.

On the upper stretches of the river most of the walleyes are being caught between ten and fifteen feet of water.

Downstream towards the resorts most walleyes are being caught in fifteen to twenty feet of water.

Sturgeon: Rainy River Fishing Report

Numbers of big sturgeon are also being caught on the Rainy River. Most of the fish have been in the deeper stretches.

A circle hook with three of four nightcrawlers have been working great. Utilize side-imaging to find schools of sturgeon.

Pack lots of nightcralwers because saugers, walleyes, and suckers will pick at your bait.

Some days have been better than others, but you can expect to catch at least a couple throughout the day.
