Wolf River Fishing Report: 3-3-2024

Wisconsin guide Troy Peterson of Mr. Bluegill Guide Service gives his latest Wolf River fishing report on March 3rd, 2024.

Wolf River Fishing Report: 3-3-2024

We’ve had unseasonable warm temperatures here in Fremont, Wisconsin and the Wolf River is wide open.

The warm weather has provided us a unique opportunity to get into the boat much earlier than most years.

Right now is a great time to get out and catch a bunch of fish.

Walleye: Wolf River Fishing Report

The fishing has been awesome and angles can expect to run into lots of walleyes.

Water temperatures are in the mid-thirties and you need to slow down your presentations in this cold water.

Look for walleyes schooled up in the deeper holes of the river. Side imaging has been the key to locating them.

Right now we’ve been catching a lot of smaller sized males. Most of the walleyes being caught have been between eleven and fourteen inches.

As the water temperatures continue to rise and after we get some rain there should be push of larger fishing making their way up river.

You can catch these walleyes a number of different ways.

Vertical jigging a 1/16-ounce thumper jig paired with a fathead minnow has produced a ton of bites. Three way rigs are also working well.

No matter what presentation you use the key has been to move it incredibly slow, almost dragging your bait along.

If you plan on heading out here you are going to want to buy a lot of minnows. One hundred fish days are common.

White Bass: Wolf River Fishing Report

We’ve haven’t ran into many white bass yet, but the spring run is just around the corner.

Anglers can expect a big migration of white bass as soon as the water temperatures and levels rise.
