Lake Superior Steelhead Fishing Report: 4-12-2024

Steelhead are running on the tributaries of the South shore of Lake Superior. Overall the bite has been really good.

The rivers are at good water levels and there are new fish consistently pushing upstream. With the rain we received this past week we should see an increase in chrome fish moving in from the lake.

Water temperatures are in the upper thirties and on some rivers the low forties. There has been some amount of spawning activity and that is only going to increase as the water temperatures warm up.

We are catching steelhead on a number of different presentations.

Beads, spawn sacs, flies, and nightcrawlers are all working. They can be fished under floats or on bottom bouncing rigs.

Most fish have been caught out of the deeper holes, but plenty of fish are sitting in the faster runs.

Right now is the best time to hit the south shore of Lake Superior.

The North shore of Lake Superior is just starting to kick off. Anglers are having some success casting at the river months. A few steelhead are being caught in the rivers as well.

Expect a good number of fish to move into the rivers if we receive rain anytime soon along the north shore.

Yarn flies have been the best on the North shore rivers, but steelhead can also be caught on spawn sacs and beads.
