Mack Peters of Slab Seeker Fishing gives his latest Lake Superior steelhead fishing report on April 19th, 2024.
Lake Superior Steelhead Fishing Report: 4-19-2024
Steelhead are running on the tributaries of the South and North shores of Lake Superior. Overall the bite has slowed down a bit but is still decent. Some days have been better than others.
The rivers are at good water levels and there are new fish consistently pushing upstream. With the rain we received this past week we should see an increase in the number of chrome fish moving in from the lake.
South Shore Rivers: Lake Superior Steelhead Fishing Report
Water temperatures are in the mid-forties on the South shore rivers. There is definitely some spawning activity happening right now and we are catching a number of fish that are post-spawn.
The bite has definitely slowed down compared to a few weeks ago, but anglers can still catch numbers of steelhead.
Beads, spawn sacs, flies, and nightcrawlers are all working. They can be fished under floats or on bottom bouncing rigs.
Most fish have been caught on the edge of deeper holes, but plenty of fish are sitting in the faster runs.

North Shore Rivers: Lake Superior Steelhead Fishing Report
The North shore rivers of Lake Superior are kicking out some fish. We had a good initial run about a week ago, but it slowed down this week. If we get some rain and the water temperatures increase a bit anglers can expect a fresh run of steelhead to push into the rivers.
We have been seeing some larger fish in the rivers. There has been several thirty-inch plus sized steelhead caught on the North shore rivers.
They can be caught on a number of different baits, but yarn flies are working best. Steelhead can also be caught on on spawn sacs, flies, and beads.
