Wolf River Fishing Report: 3-20-2024

The walleye bite is still going strong on the Wolf River near New London, Wisconsin.

Water temperature is in the low forties and walleyes are beginning to spawn. We are still catching a lot of smaller males, but have started to see numbers of bigger females recently.

Walleye: Wolf River Fishing Report

With the lack of rain and snowfall this winter the Wolf River water levels are extremely low.

This means then walleyes aren’t going to be in their usually spawning areas.

Utilize side imaging to locate the schools of walleyes and then anchor above them. Then pitch your baits towards the school.

Most of the fish we have been catching have been in about two feet of water.

Look for walleyes on shallow sand bars with a little bit of weed cover on it and on shallow flats. Those areas are holding the most active fish.

Once you locate the fish the bite has been awesome. Anglers can expect to run into lots of walleyes. The bite has been consistent throughout the day.

Hair jigs have been the ticket lately. Purple, black, orange, chartreuse, and a combination of all four have been working great.

They can be fished with or without minnow. Both ways are producing numbers of fish.

You can also catch a number of walleyes jigging a 1/16-ounce thumper jig paired with a fathead minnow or on a three way rig.

White Bass: Wolf River Fishing Report

We are still not running into many white bass yet, but the spring run will happen shortly.

Anglers can expect a big migration of white bass as soon as the water temperatures and water levels rise.
