Minnesota guide Matt Johnson of Matt Johnson Outdoors gives his latest Buzz Bite Report for the Metro Area on June 26th, 2023.
Metro Area: 6-26-2023
We had a really hot week this past week in the Metro area and overall the fishing was pretty decent.
Largemouth bass are still biting well along the developing weed lines but you had to finesse them. Drop shots, ned rigs, and wacky rigs have all been working, but the Ned rig and wacky rig was defiantly our most consistent presentations.
A few fish can also be caught on frogs and flipping baits up shallow.
Chisago Lake chain is kicking out more fish, but Lake Minnetonka is kicking out a few bigger ones.
Anglers can expect to run into plenty of pike along the weed line as well. Most fish will be in the seven to fifteen foot depth range. Crankbaits, chatterbaits, jigs, spinnerbaits and swimbaits will catch lots of northern pike.
Bluegills and crappies can still be found along the weed line in six to twelve feet of water. Look for emerging cabbage weed beds along points. A few fish can also be found under docks. Look for crappies to move up into the weeds during the evening hours.
Small jigs paired with plastics or hair have been working great.
The fishing should continue to be good for awhile. Good luck to all anglers fishing the Twin Cities area lakes this week and over the weekend and the 4th!
