Leech Lake: 6-29-2023

The fishing has been good up on Leech Lake. Overall it still seems like slow finesse presentations are working best for walleyes.

Slip bobbers or Lindy Rigs with leeches or crawlers are working the best. Anglers can still expect to catch a few fish throughout the day, but the best bite has been early in the morning or late in the evening.

Focus on depths between fourteen to eighteen feet of water along the Walker Bay sand flats, Paris trench, and main lake reefs. With the Mayflies still hatching the walleye bite may get a little tougher over the next week so keep that in mind.

Anglers can expect to catch numbers of smallmouth bass in the eight to ten foot depth range along rocky points and shorelines. Ned rigs, tubes, and crankbaits are working. Top water baits are also working early in the morning or late in the evening and when the weather is calm.

Muskies are starting to bite and can be caught casting blades up shallow, or out in open water trolling and on big rubber baits.

There is a lot happening up on Leech Lake right now, get up here and enjoy it!
