Minnesota guide Matt Johnson of Matt Johnson Outdoors gives his latest Buzz Bite Report for the Twin Cities area and Western Wisconsin on July 18th, 2023.

Twin Cities: 7-18-2023

Water temps actually dropped over this past week in the Twin Cities area and in Western Wisconsin. Most of the lakes in the metro have water temps in the high-seventies, while a majority of the lakes in Western Wisconsin have water temps in the mid-seventies.

Overall the fishing has been pretty good even with the recent cold front that came through.

We’ve been finding a number of largemouth bass in eight to fifteen feet of water along the weed edge. Most fish have been relating to the edge of the weed line.

Swimbaits have been working well, but you can also catch them on jigs, ned rigs, and plastics.

Anglers can expect to catch northern pike along the weed lines mixed in with the largemouth bass. If you do want to target pike crankbaits, chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, and swimbaits will all work great.

Crappies can be caught in the evenings along the weed lines in eight to twelve feet of water. Small jigs paired with plastics have been working great. During the day they can be found off the weed line a bit suspending in the water column.

The fishing should continue to be consistent for at least a couple weeks. Good luck to all anglers fishing the Twin Cities area this week and over the weekend!
