Minnesota guide Billy Rosner of Wild Country Guide Service gives his latest Buzz Bite Report on the river fishing near Tower Minnesota on July 17th, 2023.
Tower Minnesota: 7-17-2023
We’ve had some good fishing up near Tower Minnesota over the past week. We’ve focused on fishing the rivers in the area and are finding lots of northern pike, walleyes, smallmouth bass.
Wade around looking for current breaks and structure in the water like big rocks and logs.
Small plastics paired with a jig have been working great, but you could also throw spinnerbaits and inline spinners.
The river bite should continue to be good for the rest of the summer.
On Lake Vermilion the walleyes have transitioned out onto the make lake structure and basins. Focus on flats and reefs in twelve to sixteen feet of water. Jigging Raps, jigs paired with minnows, and lindy rigging half a crawler has been our best presentations.
Smallmouth bass can be caught on rocky structures like points and reefs in five to fifteen feet of water. Some fish can be found on docks as well.
Tubes and ned rigs are working well, but a few fish can be caught on crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and topwater.
Good luck to anyone fishing on Lake Vermilion or on the rivers near Tower Minnesota!
