Superior Wisconsin: 6-12-2023

The fish have transitioned into their summer patterns up here in Superior Wisconsin and the surrounding area.

We’ve been catching a nice mixed bag of walleyes, catfish, and some other bonus species on the St. Louis River.

You can catch walleyes a number of different ways. Trolling spinners, pitching jigs and minnows, casting crankbaits, or casting plastics are all producing numbers of fish. Target catfish with jigs and minnows or with standard cutbait or crawlers.

On our inland lakes the bluegills are beginning to push onto their beds while crappies are moving out. Small jigs paired with plastics or livebait under a float will catch plenty of panfish.

Smallmouth bass can be found on shallow flats and rocky shorelines in less than ten feet of water. Swimbaits, ned rigs, tubes, and topwater baits have been producing some smallies.

On Lake Superior we’ve got a good trolling bite happening right now for salmon and lake trout in about fifty feet of water. Bright colored stickbaits continue to be the best presentation.

These early summer patterns will continue for at least a few weeks so get out here and catch some fish.

Good luck to anyone fishing the Duluth and Superior Wisconsin area!
