Minnesota guide Joe Scegura gives his latest Alexandria Minnesota fishing report on May 10th, 2024.

Alexandria Minnesota Fishing Report: 5-10-24

We finally had some nice weather in the Alexandria area and that got the fish going. Water temperatures are on the rise and fish are moving shallow.

Crappies and bluegills are biting great and I except this weekend will be an awesome fishing opener for walleye, pike, and bass.

Crappie: Alexandria Minnesota Fishing Report

Crappies can be caught on almost all of the lakes in the Alexandria area. Most fish can be caught between one and four feet of water. Target shallow bays, channels, docks, and areas with wood.

Crappies can be caught on small jigs paired with plastics or hair under a bobber. If the fish are in a finicky mood you can use crappie minnows.

Bluegills: Alexandria Minnesota Fishing Report

Bluegills can be found in the same areas as the crappies. Shallow bays, lily pad fields, and reeds are all holding schools of bluegills. Focus on depths in less than five feet of water.

Small jigs paired with plastics or a piece of nightcrawler have been the best bait.

Upcoming Fishing Opener: Alexandria Minnesota Fishing Report

Anglers can expect to find everything shallow. Walleye, northern pike, bass, and panfish will all be in less than fifteen feet of water.

Walleyes can be caught this weekend on shallow flats, wind blown main lake points, creek mouths, and emerging weed beds. Jigs and minnows are going to be key, but some fish can definitely be caught on plastics or crankbaits.

Cast the shallows bays and weed beds for northern pike. Spinnerbaits and shallow running crankbaits should be your go-to presentations.

Largemouth bass can be caught in shallow bays and emerging lily pad fields. A wacky rigging a plastic is a great way to catch them this time of year. They can also be caught on shallow crankbaits and jerkbaits.
