Surface temps are in the upper seventies on a lot of the lakes in the Twin Cities area. Overall the fishing has been good for all species.

Largemouth bass have really been biting well. Target bass along the weed edges in ten feet of water or less.

You can catch them a bunch of different ways, but some of our best presentations have been the ned rig, jig worms, drop-shots, jigs and wacky rigs. A few fish can also be caught on frogs and other topwater baits up shallow.

For northern pike focus on emerging weed lines and weed beds. Jerkbaits, swim baits, ned rigs, plastics, and chatter baits will catch plenty of pike.

Bluegills are currently sitting on beds and are in the middle of their spawn. Please practice selective harvest if you do plan on keeping some bluegills.

Crappies can be caught along the weed edge, near docks or near wood in four to ten feet of water depending on the lake. Small jigs paired with plastics or small hair jigs have been working great.

As the weed lines continue to grow the fish will really start to gravitate towards them.

Good luck to all anglers fishing the Twin Cities area lakes this week and over the weekend!
