Minnesota fishing guide Joe Scegura gives his latest Buzz Bite Report for the Alexandria Area on May 20th, 2023.

Alexandria Area: Report 5-20-2023

The fishing has been good in the Alexandria Area. Water temps range from the mid-fifties to mid-sixties depending on the lake you are fishing.

Overall, the walleyes have been biting well, but the best bite windows have been early in the morning or late in the evening and throughout the night especially on our clearwater lakes.

Anglers can find a few walleyes during the day in current areas and dirtier water.

Livebait has been key on the clear bodies of water. Jigs and minnows, Lindy rigs, and slip bobbers have all been working.

A few fish can be caught on plastics, hair jigs and stickbaits after dark.

Largemouth bass and smallmouth bass can be found shallow in less than ten feet of water. Plastics, hair jigs, jerkbaits, and ned rigs have all been working. Expect to find a few pike mixed in as well.

Bluegills and crappies can be found in shallow bays in less than six feet of water. Small jigs paired with plastics or livebait have been working great.

Good luck to anyone fishing the Alexandria area this week or over the weekend!
