Southern Saskatchewan Buzz Bite Report 12-7-21

Our small lakes and ponds over here in Southern Saskatchewan have four to six inches of ice on them. Some of the protected bays that froze the earliest have closer to eight inches of ice on them.

That being said, a lot of our larger lakes are still open or have some open water on them so you’ll want to use extreme caution when heading out.

Check the ice with a spud bar as you walk out and bring the proper safety equipment like a set of ice picks and a throw rope.

Overall, the walleye fishing has been really good. Over the next month the fist ice walleye bite will continue to be really good.  You can find these fish along the shoreline breaks in similar spots you found them in the fall.

Spoons tipped with minnow heads have been working well.

We had a real warm fall so we are about a week or two behind for those bigger lakes, but if you have some free time head out onto some of those smaller lakes for some first ice walleyes.

We should have a great ice season ahead of us over here in Southern Saskatchewan!
