We’ve got your latest, up-to-date water temperatures and walleye baits for fishing Leech Lake right now thanks to local guide Toby Kvalevog. Leech has long been a favorite walleye hotspot for anglers throughout the state of Minnesota, and for good reason, it’s jam packed with walleyes!
As Toby breaks down in his video report, there are several excellent year classes of fish throughout the system. Whether you’re looking for eater sized walleye or some bigger, 20+ inch “picture fish”, Leech Lake has you covered. Toby has been on the water guiding since Walleye Opener, and here’s his read on what’s happening right now on the lake:
“I tell you what, the walleye are biting! It’s June right now and we’ve been catching them pulling rigs and spinners. The water temperatures are now in the low 70’s, and we’ve been catching them on several walleye baits including bobbers, Jigging Raps, we’re pulling spinners with crawlers, Lindy Rigs with crawlers and leeches.
“The bite is phenomenal on Leech Lake. We have several great year classes in the lake. There are 12-13 inch fish, which is awesome. We have 18-19 inchers, which is really good. And we’re catching some big fish, too, like that 23 incher I just let go.
“It’s been a lot of fun. Leech Lake is hot. It’s the place to be! Come on up here and see us.”
Sounds like they are catching fish on just about everything right now. Pack your favorite walleye baits, grab some crawlers and leeches at the local bait shop, and you should be ready to rock.
You can also check out this in-depth video we did on Leech Lake. We break down every section of the multifaceted lake piece-by-piece to help you develop a better understanding of how you should approach the lake. It’s an excellent tool for folks who have minimal experience on the lake, but it’s also a good refresher folks who’ve spent a decent amount of time fishing Leech Lake.
