Lake Vermilion Fishing Report:

Water temps have heated up and mid-summer patterns are here. This has made the fishing great for a variety of species. The muskies especially have been fired up and moved onto main lake rock. Some of the best fishing is right around the corner.

Lake Vermilion Fishing Report: Muskie

It’s been a great time to get out and fish muskies with warmer water temperatures. The fish have moved to offshore rock and reefs and are really active. The bite has been pretty good and anglers are seeing and catching fish.

Make sure your bombing casts all around the rock piles, and if there’s visible rock don’t be afraid to cast right up on to it. This time of year muskies will be sitting shallow up right on the rocks. Make sure your covering water moving around quickly. Speed through a piece of structure or rock hump then move on to the next.

Blades have been moving a majority of the fish. Smaller bucktails with staggered blades have been the best. Some fish are also being caught on a number 5 or 6 Blue Fox or Mepps on those days they are less active. Topwater is another good option in evening and morning times.

Lake Vermilion Fishing Report: Walleye

Walleyes have been moved on to offshore, main lake structure. The best walleye fishing has been on rock piles and rock reefs. Focus on depths between fourteen to twenty feet of water. Jigging Raps have been really effective this past week. The transitions between rock, sand, gravel, and mud are also still catching fish on live bait rigs and spinner rigs. Remember to keep your speed in that 0.7-1 mph range and you should be getting bites.

Lake Vermilion Fishing Report: Bass

Smallmouth: The small bite has been very good with the warm temps out on Lake Vermilion. In the mornings and evenings the topwater bite has been pretty good with poppers and prop baits. Look for shallower rock piles, rock points, and structured filled shorelines to find fish. Docks are also producing smallmouth, along with some largemouth too. Ned rigs, tubes and swimbaits are also working.

Largemouth: Some nice bass are being caught as summer water temps arrive and get the larges fired up. Senkos with some weight in the weeds has been very successful. Fishing the West side of the lake has been best, Focus on cabbage weed beds in depths between six to ten feet of water. Green pumpkin, pink, and purple have been some hot colors.
