Minnesota fishing guide Toby Kvalevog from Leisure Outdoor Adventures gives us his latest Leech Lake fishing report on July 23rd, 2024.
Leech Lake Fishing Report: 7-23-24
Mid-summer has arrived here at Leech Lake and it has the fish moving around. The walleyes have moved deeper while the muskies have moved into shallower water. The fishing has been decent on Leech Lake.
Leech Lake Fishing Report: Walleye
A majority of the walleyes are being caught in fourteen to twenty-two feet of water. In Walker Bay we are seeing some fish even deeper in the twenty to thirty foot range. Plastics on jigs or Rapala Jigging Raps have been the best way to trigger bites. A few fish can still be caught on slip bobbers, but you have to your bait in front of a bunch of fish before you can get one to bite.

Leech Lake Fishing report: Muskie
The muskie fishing has slowed down a bit and the it’s been a little tougher. Most of the musky action can be found up shallow. Look for fish on shallow weed beds, rocks, sand flats and reeds. The day bite has been tough, but anglers who can get out during the evening and night have been catching some fish.
Leech Lake Fishing report: Bass
The smallmouth fishing has been fairly good on the same humps walleyes are being caught just look a bit shallower. Ned rigs have been catching smallies. The best colors have been rusty orange, charcoal, and chartreuse. Some topwater action can be had in the evening on calmer days. Poppers and prop baits have been best.
Largemouth: With warmer water temps the largemouth have been more active and some nice fish are being caught. Look for fish in the reeds and rice. Heavy Texas rigs or punch rigs have been the best setups. On hot, muggy days a frog has been working well.
