Lake Vermilion Fishing Report: 7-8-24
Lake Vermilion has been fishing good, however the mid summer patterns have come that has slowed things down a bit for walleyes. Anglers are still catching plenty of fish and the walleye fishing should stabilize as the water temperatures increase and the fish continue to congregate onto their summer locations.
Walleye: Lake Vermillion Fishing Report

Locations: The best spots have been deeper bottom transitional areas. Look for rock to sand, or sand to mud transitions. Focus on depths between fourteen to twenty feet of water. Those areas have been the most productive. Also look for some steeper sand breaks that are holding lots of perch. Those areas are worth checking out.
Tactics:
Live bait rigs have been the best method for trigger bites. A Lindy rig has been working well. Use a 3/4-ounce or 1-ounce slip sinker paired with a plain number four wide gap hook. Leeches and crawlers are both producing bites.
Pulling that rig super slow has been key. Most of our bites have come at speeds between 0.3 to 0.7 mph. Take advantage of your electronics to scan fish and bottom make up. Side scan is an awesome tool for this and will help you find those spots. The best bite has been early in the morning, sometimes even before the sun comes up.
Bass: Lake Vermilion Fishing Report
The smallmouth bass fishing has been great on Lake Vermilion. Water temps are in the low seventies and the bass have been active and aggressive. Fish along structured filled shorelines and rock piles. Most fish have been shallow in less than ten feet of water. Throwing topwater baits like the Rapala Skitter Pop has been a fun way to target these fish. Otherwise jerk baits, ned rigs, and tubes are all great producers on Lake Vermilion.
Some largemouth bass can ago be caught on Lake Vermilion. Look for these fish on the Western side of the lake. Fish near docks and along deeper weed lines. Wacky rigged senkos, ned rigs, and other plastics will produce bites.

Muskies: Lake Vermilion Fishing Report
The Muskie bite has been decent and anglers are catching some nice fish. A decent amount of fish have been making their way out onto offshore structure and anglers are having action on rock piles and reefs. Some fish can also be found in weed beds. Top water baits, big cowgirls, and rubbers are just some of the baits anglers are moving fish on.
