Lake Minnetonka Fishing Report: 5-7-24

This past week we spent a lot of time around the Twin Cities area lakes and the fishing has been good.

Water temperatures stayed the same from last week and are still in the mid-fifties.

Crappies: Lake Minnetonka Fishing Report

The crappie bite has continued to heat up on Lake Minnetonka and the surrounding lakes in the Metro area. Almost all of our crappies have been caught between four and eight feet of water.

Main lake milfoil weed beds are holding the most fish, but some crappies can also be found in coontail beds.

Small jigs paired with hair or plastics continue to be the ticket. The Mister Twister Sassy Stingum has been our best plastic by far.

Bluegills: Lake Minnetonka Fishing Report

Bluegills can be caught on all of the Metro area lakes.

Look for bluegills in shallow bays and channels. Most of the bluegills can be found in depths between two and eight feet of water.

Small jigs paired with a float continue to be the ticket for these bluegills. We’ve trigged the most bites when we’ve slowed down our presentation for the bluegills.

Western Wisconsin

This past weekend the game fish season opened up in Wisconsin and the fishing was great.

Walleye, bass, northern pike, and panfish can all be found shallow in less than twelve feet of water.

Look for panfish in shallow bays and weed beds. A number of fish can be found near docks and wood.

Largemouth bass can also be found in the shallow bays. Focus on areas with new weed growth.

Walleye can be caught on the shallow flats and main lake, wind blown points in twelve feet of water or less. Walleyes can be caught on small swimbaits, jerkbaits, or a jig and minnow.
