Northern Michigan: 6-29-2023
We’ve still got a good bite happening in Northern Michigan.
On Lake Michigan the water temps are cold and the fish are biting. Anglers can expect to catch lake trout and salmon near Manistee, Ludington, and Frankfort.
Trolling spoons and flies up high in the water column is the best way to catch the salmon. Trolling is also working for the lake trout, but you can catch them jigging as well.
The Manitou islands are producing a mixed bag of salmon, steelhead, and lake trout.
Walleyes are still biting on our inland lakes. Look for these fish between twenty and thirty feet of water on reefs and points. Swimbaits, jigs paired with minnows, crawler harnesses, or slip bobbers are all producing numbers of walleyes.
Smallmouth bass can be caught in the transition area between their spawning flats and deeper water. Spinnerbaits, swimbaits, ned rigs, tubes, and hair jigs are working right now.
The fishing should continue to be good for the coming weeks. Good luck to all the anglers fishing in Michigan!
