Minnesota guide Matt Johnson gives his latest Buzz Bite Report for the Twin Cities Area on May 9th, 2023.
Twin Cities: 5-9-2023
Overall the fishing has still been good in the Twin Cities area for crappies. Lake Minnetonka turned over a few days ago and that caused a tough couple days, but things have settled down and the crappies can be found in their usual springtime spots.
Water temps are in the mid to high fifties depending on where you are on the lake.
A Clam Drop TG Jig paired with a crappie tube or Mister Twister Sassy Stingum has been working great.
For the fishing opener weekend expect to find bass, northern pike, and walleyes in less than twelve feet of water.
For bass and pike focus on shallow water flats and bays where panfish are located. Jerkbaits, swim baits, ned rigs, plastics, and chatter baits will catch plenty of fish.
For walleyes target current areas and sandy flats between six and twelve feet of water. Lindy rigs, a jig and minnow or a jig and plastic will work great.
This week looks pretty good weather wise and as it continues to get warmer the fishing is only going to get better.
Good luck to all anglers fishing the Twin Cities area lakes this week and over fishing opener weekend!
