Lake Vermilion Buzz Bite Report 6-22-2022

It’s mid June and things are definitely starting to change up here on Lake Vermilion. It finally feels like summer and the water temps are in the mid to high sixties.

Walleyes have started to slide out onto those bottom transitional areas. Look for mud to rock transitions in fifteen to twenty-five feet of water.

Don’t be afraid to fish on the tops of mid-lake reefs as well. During the low light periods, good numbers of walleyes can be caught on top of the reefs.

There are a few bug hatches happening so creature style baits have been working the best. Lindy rigging crawlers and leeches or slip bobbers with leeches will produce fish.

You can also catch walleyes pulling spinners in twenty to twenty-five feet of water.

The smallmouth bass fishing will continue to be good as we begin to see more and more bug hatches. Look for the topwater bite early in the morning and late in the evening, and during the day, ned rigs, tubes, and crankbaits will catch fish.

Focus around the islands, saddle systems, and rock flats in twelve feet of water or less.

We still have high water so use caution when driving around.

Good luck to all the anglers out fishing on Lake Vermilion this week and upcoming weekend!
