“We are on the St. Louis River this morning, just after the Minnesota Fishing Opener. The bite has been awesome! Everything is working; trolling, casting, fan-casting, jigging.

“We’ve found on the river bite that the jigging scenario with livebait is tending towards larger profile minnows. Once we ran out of the bigger minnows, the bite got a little bit more difficult. Ultimately, we still caught plenty of fish, that’s just a trend I saw. We’ve had times of lull and times of hot action.

“The biggest fish of the weekend is a 27 incher caught be yours truly! My wife caught a nice 25 incher yesterday. Sherpa got a nice one today. There’s been fish everywhere and everyone’s been doing really as well.

“The bite has been good on the lakes, too. You can catch spawning fish still – the walleyes are still up doing their milking and spawning activities.

“Water temperatures are 50 degrees on the river. On the inland lakes, they have 46-49 degrees. It’s been pretty cold overnights.

“We’re still waiting for the crappies to move up to their spawning areas. They are still hanging out around the deep basins and beginning to transition at this time. You can catch bluegills in the weeds right now.”
