The fishing on Leech Lake has been good as we transition into the dog days of summer. Overall the fishing has improved this past week for a variety of species. This fishing report will help make your next day on Leech a good one.
Leech Lake Fishing Report: Walleye

Water temps are in the mid-seventies on Leech Lake. Walleyes can be found on the humps that are in the ten to fourteen feet of water. Fishing wind swept sides of the lake has been effective on some days. The best bites have been early in the morning and late in the evening.
Leeches under a slip bobber on those calm days is pulling a few fish off the humps right now. A jig and leech has been productive when fish are stacked tight and in a more aggressive mood. The best baits have been crankbaits or jigs and plastics. Plastics on jig heads has produce the most bites. A minnow style plastics or paddle tail has been best. Blue, white, and natural colors are always great options when on Leech.
Leech Lake Fishing Report: Muskies
Muskies are starting to push shallow into weeds and rocks. The open water trolling bite has slowed down and it seems to be over till fall. Fish are now feeding on shallow rocky shallow structure and cabbage bays. Fishing has been tough due to weather but it should heat up with the stable weather on the horizon.

Leech Lake Fishing Report: Bass
The smallmouth fishing has been fairly good on the same humps walleyes are being caught just look a bit shallower. Ned Rigs have been catching smallies. The best colors have been rusty orange, charcoal, and chartreuse colors. Some topwater action can be had in the evening on calmer days. Poppers and prop baits have been best.
Largemouth: With warmer water temps the largemouth have been more active and some nice fish are being caught. Most anglers are punching weed beds with heavy Texas rigs setups. Look for the bass in reeds and rice. Fish are starting to hit frogs in the thick stuff as well.
