Minnesota fishing guide Brian Brosdahl from Bro’s Guide Service gives us his latest fishing report for the Leech Lake area on June 12th, 2024.
Leech Lake Area Fishing Report: 6-12-24
The fishing has been picking up on all the lakes in the Northern Minnesota. Leech Lake, Winnie, Cass and the surrounding area lakes have fantastic bites happening right now. Anglers can expect to run into walleye, perch, panfish, bass, pike, and musky.

Walleye: Leech Lake Area
Leech, Winnie, and Cass are all fishing very well and anglers are catching plenty of walleyes. Our lakes are about two weeks ahead of normal and the walleyes can be found slightly deeper than they would be on a typically year. Look for walleyes on offshore sand flats, bars, humps, and reefs.
Walleyes can be found in thirteen to twenty feet of water in the Leech Lake area. Due to the lack of an algae die-off the water is a lot cloudier than normal. This allows you too fish closer to the boat. Anglers are catching fish a number of different ways. Lindy rigs, spinners, slip bobbers, and jigs are working well. Both fathead minnows and rainbow minnows are working. Leeches and crawlers are also catching fish. During lowlight conditions a Northland Fishing Tackle Deep-V Underspin paired with an eye candy plastics is working great. Olive, black or blue and parrot have been the best colors for jigs and spinners.

Panfish: Leech Lake Area
Big jumbo perch can be found on most of the area lakes. Look for them in to be slightly shallower than the walleyes. Jumbo perch on the edge of the sand to weed transition. Focus on depths between eight and ten feet of water. A small jig paired with a chunk crawler or smaller leech will work great for perch.
Bluegills and crappies can be found on the emergent weed beds in eight to ten feet of water. This bite its is going strong as well and can you give you a nice break from chasing the walleye out deep. Use smaller leeches for those big gills and small minnows for crappies. Hair jigs and small plastics are also working.
