Duluth Area Fishing Report: 6-18-2024

The Duluth area has been well this past few weeks. Anglers are having lots of success on the inland lakes and on Lake Superior. As the water continues to warm up the fish should get even more aggressive.

Walleyes: Duluth Area Fishing Report

We’ve got a great walleye bite happening right now on the St. Louis River and on Lake Superior. On the St. Louis River anglers are catching walleyes pulling spinners in ten feet of water or less. The key has been to work them slow and keep the spinner close to the bottom. Work along the edges of the channel for bigger fish. Anglers can also expect to catch some jumbo perch and the occasional northern pike.

When targeting walleyes on the inland lakes just outside of Duluth focus on mid-lake humps and rock piles. The water temperatures are just below seventy degrees and the walleyes have moved into their summer areas. Anglers are catching fish on jigs paired with minnows, leeches, or nightcrawlers. Slip bobbers will also put a few fish in the boat.

Lake Superior Walleye Bite

Some bigger walleyes have moved out to the main lake and are being caught trolling. Stick baits have been the ticket for most anglers. The best colors have been wonderbread, purple, and chartreuse mixed with white. Remember to find the warmer water and check the weather before you head out!

Panfish: Duluth Area Fishing Report

Crappies and bluegills can be caught on inland lakes in Duluth and Superior and in the St. Louis River. Look for panfish on the sides of the channels, shallow bays and areas that have new weed growth. Jigs paired with a live crappie minnow has been the best presentation.
