Minnesota fishing guide Toby Kvalevog from Leisure Outdoor Adventures gives us his latest Leech Lake fishing report on June 21st, 2024.
Leech Lake Fishing Report: 6-21-2024
Water temperatures have risen into seventies and fishing has been steady out on Leech Lake. The rise in water temperature has triggered lots of bug hatches which has really slowed the walleye bite down. With the tough walleye bite anglers are focusing on other species like bass, panfish, and muskies.
Walleye: Leech Lake Fishing Report
Tough Conditions: Right now there is a ton of bait in the lake and that has caused the walleye fishing to really slow down. From the hatching mayflies, molting crawfish and perch minnows the walleyes have so much food that they really aren’t biting. Anglers can catch a few during primetime hours really early in the morning or late in the evening.
Look for walleyes on twelve to fourteen foot sand flats. Some large schools of fish can also be found on the main lake rock reefs and on hard to soft bottom transitions. A slip bobber and a crawler or leech is the best way to get bit.

Panfish: Leech Lake Fishing Report
Panfish can be caught in the weed bays in less than ten feet of water. Small jigs paired with plastics, nightcrawlers, or small leeches are working for both bluegills and crappies. Anglers can expect to run into largemouth bass in those same areas.
Bass: Leech Lake Fishing Report
With the bug hatches underway both smallmouth and largemouth bass are beginning to hit topwater. The fish are pretty scattered but seem to be biting well. Target bass in twelve feet of water or less.
Musky: Leech Lake Fishing Report
There has been a good musky bite this past week on Leech Lake. We’ve seen a few fish cruising shallow, however most fish seem to be suspended in the deepwater feeding on ciscos. Numbers of large fish are being caught. Trolling crankbaits or casting big rubber baits like bulldawgs, tubes, and bondy baits has been the best way to trigger bites.
