Lake Minnetonka Fishing Report: 5-21-24
We’ve had a good week out on Lake Minnetonka and the surrounding Metro area lakes. Overall the fishing was good. Anglers can expect to run into plenty of largemouth bass, northern pike, panfish and walleyes.
Walleye: Lake Minnetonka Fishing Report
We’ve found a number of walleyes in the shallow weed beds and on shallow main lake structure like points and flats. If you can find the bait you’ll find the walleyes. The best bite has been early in the morning or late in the evening.
Swimbaits have been the best presentation, but they can be caught a number of different ways. Chartreuse, white, and perch patterns have been the best colors.
Crappies: Metro Area Lakes
The crappie bite continues to be great in the Metro area. Some fish are on beds and some have already finished up spawning. Do your best to practice selective harvest and let the fish go that are guarding their eggs on their nests.
Shallow bays, weed beds in the main lake, channels, and areas with docks that have deepwater are all holding crappies. Small jigs paired with hair or plastics continue to be the ticket. The Mister Twister Sassy Stingum has been our best plastic by far.
Bluegills: Lake Minnetonka Fishing Report
Bluegills can be caught on all of the Metro area lakes. Bluegills have moved up into the shallows. They can be found in the same areas the crappies are in. Most of the bluegills can be found in depths between two and eight feet of water. Small jigs paired with a float continue to be the ticket for these bluegills.
Largemouth Bass: Lake Minnetonka Fishing Report
Largemouth bass can be caught in the shallow bays and on shallow main lake weed beds. Focus on depths between three and ten feet of water. Some largemouth bass are starting to bed up. Plastics, chatterbaits, jerkbaits, squarebill crankbaits and jigs are all producing bites. Anglers can expect to run into plenty of northern pike and walleyes while bass fishing.
