Minnesota guide Jason Freed of Leisure Outdoor Adventures gives his latest Lake Vermilion fishing report on May 30th, 2024.
Lake Vermilion Fishing Report: 5-30-24
Overall the fishing has been pretty decent up on Lake Vermilion. Depending on what you are chasing you may have to work for it a bit, but most anglers are having good success. Currently water temperatures are in the upper fifties on Lake Vermilion.

Walleye: Lake Vermilion Fishing Report
The walleye fishing has been pretty decent this past week. Anglers have had to work for their fish, but numbers of walleyes can be still be caught. The best bite has been late in the evening or first thing in the morning, however fish can be caught throughout the day.
Target walleyes on the West side of Lake Vermilion in six to ten feet of water on rock reefs, weed beds, or wind blown shorelines. On the East side of Lake Vermilion focus on depths between fifteen to twenty-five feet of water on hard to soft bottom transitions. Lindy rigging has been the best way to catch walleyes.
Smallmouth Bass: Lake Vermilion Fishing Report
Smallmouth bass can be caught in the edge of the shallow flats on tubes, ned rigs, and wacky rigs. They are biting all over the lake.
Crappies: Lake Vermilion Fishing Report
Right now crappies can be caught in the shallow bays on Lake Vermilion. Most crappies are being caught between four and eight feet of water. Small hair jigs and jigs tipped with plastics under a float have been working great for these Lake Vermilion crappies.

Northern Pike: Lake Vermilion Fishing
Anglers can expect to catch numbers of quality northern pike in the shallow bays and in the emerging weed beds. Overall the northern pike bite has been good. Some anglers have been hitting the river and are catching some nice northern pike. Spinnerbaits, shallow jerkbaits, and swimbaits have been the best way to catch them. Brighter colors like chartreuse, firetiger, and perch seem to be working the best.
