Central Minnesota Fishing Report: 5-29-24

We’ve had some good fishing in Central Minnesota over the past few weeks. It seems like most fish want to bite right now.

Walleye: Central Minnesota Fishing Report

We’ve had a really good walleye bite recently with a lot of fish biting throughout the day. We have found a number of walleyes on six to eight foot sand flats. Some other good spots include main lake points and the first break near spawning areas. Focus on depths between six and sixteen feet in those areas.

Walleyes can be caught a number of ways. Rapala Jigging Raps in a size five have been working great. They can also be caught on leeches under slip bobbers or jigs paired with minnows, nightcrawlers, or leeches. A few fish can also be caught trolling stickbaits after the sun goes down. The best colors have been white, perch, blue chrome.

Panfish: Central Minnesota Fishing Report

Panfish continue roaming shallow weed flats, channels, bays and areas near pencil reeds in one to thirteen feet of water. There is some crappie spawning activity occurring right now depending on the water temperature of the lake you are fishing. The bluegill spawn should beginning in the next week or two.

Small jigs continue to be the the best presentation. Pair them with plastics or hair. When targeting those fish that are extremely shallow its is beneficial to use a light jig in a 1/32-ounce size. The best colors have been pink, white, and chartreuse.

Northern Pike: Central Minnesota Fishing Report

Anglers can expect to run into plenty of northern pike while fishing for other species like walleye, bass, and panfish. If you want to target northern pike look for emerging weed beds in twelve feet of water or less. Swimbaits have been the best bait, but crankbaits, jerkbaits, and spinnerbaits will all catch plenty of northern pike.
