Tim Geni gives his latest Saskatchewan fishing report on February 7th, 2024.

Saskatchewan Fishing Report: 2-7-2024

Most lakes in Southern Saskatchewan have twenty-two to twenty-six inches of good ice. Up North I’ve heard reports of lakes having over three feet of ice.

You’ll still want to avoid current areas and please be extremely careful and do not cross any heaves or dangerous looking areas.

Most anglers are getting around with trucks.

We’ve continued to send a lot of our time on the Qu’Appelle chain in Southern Saskatchewan.

The Qu’Appelle lakes and they consist of four lakes Katepwa ,Mission , Echo and Pasqua. Overall the bite has been great.

Saskatchewan Fishing Report: Walleyes

The walleye bite has been awesome. The best bite has been during the primetime periods early in the morning and late in the evening.

Throughout the day anglers can expect to catch numbers of walleyes.

Focus on main lake points, reefs, and rock piles.

Target depths between fifteen and twenty-five of water. During the day target the edge of of the structure and during the lowlight periods move shallower.

We are catching a majority of our walleyes on spoons tipped with minnow heads. Perch, glow purple, glow blue/white, and wonderbread have been the best colors.

A few fish can also be caught on rattlebaits and reactionary baits like Rapala Jigging Raps.

Saskatchewan Fishing Report: Mixed Bag

Anglers can expect to catch a variety of other fish on the same spots as the walleyes. Perch, ciscos, and northern pike are consistently being caught in the same areas.

Target northern pike with set lines or by jigging larger baits.

Some pike can also be found in the shallow weed beds. As we get later into the ice season those really big pike will begin to push shallow.

Perch and ciscos can be caught on small spoons or small jigs tipped with some bait.

Up in Northern Saskatchewan anglers are catching lake trout on heavy spoons and jigs. Dead baits on the bottom are also producing fish.
